My daughter's Piano and Singing teacher has a couple of incredible stories similar to Fritz Kreisler.
Right of Consciousness
Her Grandparents were accomplished musicans, who performed and taught and were well known in their day. They met, fell in love married, bought a house and had a child. Unfortunately just after the birth of that child the Grandmother got sick and never recovered.
The grandmother owned a beautiful piano, there were only 8 brought into Australia at the time. Her father was so distressed when one of her student's father's offered to buy her piano he told him all he wanted was 10 shilllings.
Many years later, the granddaughter, my daughter's music teacher, was studying music and needed to upgrade her piano. She looked in the Trading Post (offline version of ebay) and saw 2 advertised at the one address.
She realized she wouldn't have the funds to buy the beautiful one but thought she'd love to try it out. Packing her Grandmother's music in her bag off she went to try them out.
The old lady greeted her at the door and took her in to where the pianos were and the music teacher asked if she could just try the beautiful piano out even though she knew she wouldn't have enough money to buy it.
The old lady, being a good musician herself was happy to allow her to do so. With that the music teacher pulled out her music and prepared to sit down and play.
The old lady looked stunned when she saw the name on the top of the music.
"Where did you get that music?" she asked.
"It was my Grandmother's." was the reply.
"Oh my goodness, your Grandmother was my music teacher and this is her piano! Your Great Grandfather gave it to us for 10 shillings when she died because he was so devasted at his loss. This piano belongs to you."
The music teacher then became the proud owner of a beautiful baby grand piano, that had been brought to Australia for the Grandmother she had never met.
I just love it when I hear stories like this ... co-incidence ... serendipity ... synchronicity ... who knows, but The Right Of Consciousness was definitely at work in this case.
And you know what that wasn't the only incidence of this in this extraordinary music teacher's life ... stay tuned for the next installment.
Love life and live it creatively,
Leanne
