The Tyranny of When ... then ...

Most of us grow up living our lives with the concept of ‘Responsible people complete tasks they need to do before turning to those they want to do.’

‘When-then’ has lots of paybacks
It tells us that doing necessary jobs is an obligation, not a choice. It emphasizes that work comes before play. And it offers the promise of a reward or fun activity once the work is done.

It’s great when we’ve set a goal and we’re working systematically towards achieving it. It gives us that push to do the things we’re not so ... wrapped ... about doing in order to have the rewards of achieving our goals.

However, like most things in life there’s an upside and a downside and it can seriously impact our results when working with the Law of Attraction which tells us we need to be happy in the moment.

How do you know if you’re suffering from the Tyranny of ... When ____ then ___

There are some telltale signs in the language we use.
Do you use these sorts of phrases when you’re talking ... to yourself or others :))
  • When I lose twenty kilos then I'll like myself
  • When I find a partner then I'll be happy
  • When I get that raise then I'll be happy
  • When I pay off my mortgage then I'll feel secure
Trouble is we get so caught up in the doing, we forget to be happy in the moment and we end up pushing the things we really want away.

We work really hard and achieve the goal and then there’s just another goal to fill its place and we end up perpetuating that feeling of never arriving, of never being happy, or never being adequate or satisfied.

We forget that we only get one chance at this lifetime and the reality is, it’s the journey that matters.

So how about a little re-framing:
  • I'll be happy now and then I'll lose twenty kilos and it will be a bonus
  • I'll be happy now and then I'll get that raise and it will be a bonus
  • I'll be happy now and then I'll pay off the mortgage and it will be a bonus
  • I'll be happy now and then I'll find a partner and it will be a bonus
Everything you do in this world - all of it - is centred around being happy, around choosing to be happy, about expressing the essence of being happy.

Everyth
ing else is simply part of the joy ride - all the money, clothes, belongings, adventures, awards - those are all by-products of you feeling great and making happiness your primary objective.

The biggest legacy you can ever create and the one that will make the biggest difference to you and the people around you is you living, breathing and enjoying the life your living.

Remember:
Arriving at the destination is a bonus ... its how much fun you have along the way that’s the REAL reward!

7 Surprisingly Quick And Easy Ways To Feel Happier

All of us have days when we're out of sorts and just wish you were in a better mood. You've had days like that, haven't you? I know I have.

And then there's those time when you've tried to get yourself into a better state of mind but struggled to achieve it.

Sometimes we get stuck in our own emotional dumps and forget how easy it is to feel happier.

Here are seven simple things you can do to lift your mood easily and naturally.

1. Go for a walk
Most people know that going for a short daily walk is one of the best forms
of exercise. When you're feeling down it's even more beneficial.

If possible, find a park or a natural environment with plants and birds. If that's not possibl
e, either look at the plants and things around you or think about somewhere like that as you walk.

What do you notice first? The different shades of greenery, the fresh smell of country air, the sounds of birds, or the sunlight shining through the trees?

2. Listen to quality music

Music can shift a listener's state within moments. It's effect can be nearly magical. Dig out that CD you haven't listened to in ages or tune in your radio to something you've never listened to before.

3. Open yourself to discovering something new

Read something uplifting or find something inspiring to watch. There heaps of different types of magazines can you get these days.

Visit you
r local library or browse through a magazine rack. Pick up or buy a magazine you wouldn't normally buy. Enter relaxation or inspiration into your search engine browser or YouTube. You may discover something wonderful ... let me know what you find!

4. Find something to laugh at

Laughter is one of the best ways to lift your spirits. Find a humorous book, or watch a comedy.

The funny thing about laugher is there doesn't even have to be anything to laugh at for your body and your mind to feel the benefits ... just laugh and you'll feel them ... go on ... I dare you!

5. Simple breathing meditation

Breathing meditation is a great exercise that you can do anywhere. Simply allow yourself to sit comfortably with your back straight. Now close your eyes and become aware of the flow of air into and out of your nostrils.

Breathe deeply into your lungs using your diaphragm, into the middle of your lungs and into your chest ... then breathe out in reverse ... chest, middle, diaphragm. That's all there is to it.

If you can do this for 10-15 minutes however even 6 - 10 long slow deep breaths will make a difference.

6. Doodling for the fun of it

Most people can remember when they were young and used to doodle for hours. Kids love drawing silly little pictures and colouring in.

Drawing's not just for kids or artists. Whoever you are get some pens, pencils, crayons or whatever you have and just draw for the fun of it. Notice how your state of mind shifts.

7. Understand how lucky you are

The fact that you're reading this article suggests that you're probably much better off than most people on this planet. At times this may be hard to believe, but if you can read and have access to the internet, just those two things alone means you're better off than most people in the world.

There are many human beings that barely have access to the basics of survival. There are people in lots of pain. Allow your feelings of gratitude for the life you're living to grow.

These are all pretty simple. There's nothing profound or life changing, but when all you need is a quick pick me up these may be just the thing you need to give you a lift.

Putting simple ideas, methods, tools and techniques into action will help you achieve change more quick and easily ... surprisingly so at times ... than you imagine.

So how can I do that you ask when all around me is in chaos?

There’s lots of information out there on how you can influence your mood by sleep and diet and regular exercise but there are ways you can impact your mood immediately.

Use these quick tips and turn your mood around instantly:

1.
Put a smile on your dial even if you don’t feel like it. You’ve probably heard the saying ‘Fake til you make it’. Turns out it’s backed by research. Research has proven that whether you feel happy or not a smile has a positive effect on the way you feel. Plus, with a smile on your face others see you as friendlier and more approachable so you’ll have more friends, and

2. Socializing boosts moods! It’s true. Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert on
e of the secrets to happiness is having warm, close connections with others. So make some time to stay in touch, make a call, send a text or an email or have a coffee with a friend.

3. Stand up and take a brisk walk whether it’s on the spot, around your desk or out in the fresh air, a brisk walk will speed up your metabolism and you’ll feel more energetic. It has a ripple effect too, if you’re energetic the people around you will feel more energetic. So the next time your phone rings use that as a trigger to remind you to stand up and move.

4. Music will do it
. Play some upbeat music and feel your energy rise. Research has shown that music is one of the most effective means of raising energy and improving moods.

5. Random Acts of kindness. Do something nice for someone for no other reason than just because you can and feel good yourself. Give a compliment, open a door, take someone for coffee, bake a cake and brighten someone’s day. Right or wrong, if you’re feeling a bit flat give yourself a lift and do something nice for someone else.

6. Schedule in some fun
. I know you’re busy and you’ve got lots on your plate but have y
ou ever noticed how the busiest people seem to be the ones that are having the most fun. Make a list of things that make you smile for real and schedule some time to do some of them now. And remember they can be inexpensive and quick. Begin it now as you’re sitting there, reading this start making your own list … watch a funny movie, ring a friend who makes you laugh

7. Love what you’re doing
. Whether you like what you’re doing or not decide to have fun anyway. and feel your endorphons rise.

So if you’d like to be have a greater impact on the world around you, then make the decision today to be happy, right here and right now and naturally become more helpful, more productive and be liked by more people
. It’s your duty!
